Eternity…

On the second Sunday of October, we launched a new message series about prayer. I did something I had never done before; I ended the message that day by walking through the congregation, praying out loud. After the third service, a young man handed me an offering envelope with this phone number and asked me to call him. That afternoon, I did.

His name was Brent and he told me he felt something he had never felt before when I walked through the congregation – he felt like he needed to be saved. We talked about what that meant and what it meant to ask Jesus into your heart. I asked him to call back to the office and set up a time for us to get together.

You may recall the Sunday two weeks later when the amplifier caught on fire. I was afraid that was a “Spirit killer.” But in that service, Brent came forward and asked me to pray with him, so that he would know how to receive Jesus. I did, and he prayed to receive Jesus in that “ruined” service.

When Brent had his follow up conversation with Jock, he told him that he knew God was speaking to him when the amp caught fire, telling him not to let the devil get his way in the service, but for him to go forward and receive Jesus. Brent was baptized a short time later.

While I was at the Florida-FSU game, I received a call that Brent had been a serious car accident. He had gone to apologize to someone for something that happened several months ago – God apparently was telling him that he needed to make things right.

Brent suffered serious brain trauma and was declared brain dead. His wife made the decision to donate all his organs. I was with the family as they said their goodbyes.

This is what I want you to know: I was there when Brent took his next step – to ask Jesus into his heart and commit to being Jesus’ disciple. I was there when Brent took his final step – to be with Jesus for eternity.

What we do at ADBC matters. It matters for all eternity.
