The Power of One Man's Eye Black

I've never seen so much scripture at Florida Field.

We went to Tim Tebow's last game at the Swamp this past weekend. Tim played an outstanding game (five scores!). We got to see him make his final Gator Walk, be recognized on Senior Day, and make his last Victory Lap.

Someone suggested that fans wear eye black to honor Tebow, who is know for putting scripture verses on his eye black to send a message. Everywhere we looked, we saw people with eye black with scripture verses: John 3:16; Proverbs 3:5-6; and Philippians 4:13.

Two passages stood out. One was the one Tebow himself was wearing, Hebrews 12:1-2:

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The other was on a banner on the wall, 1 Timothy 1:5 (Tebow's number is 15):

The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Here's my point: Until Tim Tebow was unashamed to show his faith, no one would have worn scripture to a football game. One man's eye black, one man's faith, started many people at least thinking about the Bible and what it says.

What have you done lately to make anyone think about Jesus?
